What is Your Favorite Success
Story?
It was March 2000, and I was the 10th employee hired by Envestnet.com, a “dot.com” with
a plan to be the virtual office for financial advisors. We had only a business
plan, a committed team of bright people, and a URL. I was charged with developing
the firm’s Internet services for financial advisors, and quickly went
to work. Five months later, we launched Envestnet.com to a crowd of 3000+ financial
advisors at the Financial Planners Association meeting in Boston. We asked
early adopters to share testimonials to help tell our story, and the trade
press captured the vision and named Envestnet Asset Management the “Category
Killer” and “Best of the Web” for financial advisors. The
client testimonials and media endorsements by Morningstar, Investment Advisor
Magazine and Forbes ASAP helped overcome natural resistance in the midst of
the dot.com bomb. The result is that Envestnet Asset Management is now a thriving
ASP and investment management firm with $11B in assets. And, thousands of financial
advisors’ lives are easier because they got the word!
The experience brought to mind Malcolm
Gladwell’s wisdom from his book, The Tipping
Point: “Look at the world around you. It may
seem like an immovable place. It is not. With the slightest
push – in just the right place – it can
be tipped.” - Malcolm Gladwel
What Are Your Hobbies and
Interests?
The real question is what don’t I like to do?… I’m pretty
easy going, and will try most anything once. But, I thrive in the outdoors
and in the middle of the city where I live. On weekends, I refuel by seeing
the sights while biking or running along the lakefront. And, when winter’s
blustery winds make the path too grueling, I get my exercise in the suburban
snow or at local dance clubs, including the House of Blues, which is literally
in my “basement.” If you’re traveling through Chicago and
want to check out the House of Blues or the notorious Marina Towers (Bob Newhart’s
home), I’d be happy to play tour guide. And, if you’re a serious
Tech Image prospect, you’ll get VIP treatment!
What is the Title of the
Last Good Book You Read?
The last good books I “re-read” are the Bible and Dale Carnegie’s “How
to Win Friends and Influence People.” Both share my nightstand, and are
regularly referenced for their time-tested strategies for living a good life.
Interestingly they’re also the 1st and 3rd best-selling non-fiction books
of all time! I now have the privilege of passing on some of what I’ve
learned from Dale Carnegie as a part-time instructor of the 12-week course
by the same name.
Who are Your Favorite Recording
Artists?
Favorite recording artists are Passion, Melissa Etheridge, Yaz, and Andrew
Lloyd Weber… Well, okay, Andrew Lloyd Weber isn’t exactly a recording
artist, but I could listen to any one of his musicals 24x7.
What are your favorite TV
shows?
CNN Headline News and The Apprentice are my two top picks!
Why Are You a Good Fit at
Tech Image?
I’m a technology enthusiast,
entrepreneur and Kellogg MBA. And, I’m passionate
about connecting market leaders and innovators with
the resources they need to get to market! |
